By the end of May 2020, most of students in rural China were finally back to school. After months of suspension amid Covid-19 pandemic, we were then very excited about resuming our Videolink Program, which consists of volunteers teaching English online to 10-15 children located in a school classroom.
Four videolink classrooms have been reopened since then, including Hongbo School and Queshan Middle School in Henan Province, Tanglaoya education center in Fujian Province and Longxiang School in Anhui Province. From May till now, our volunteer teachers have provided weekly English classes via the internet to more than 166 children. In total, they delivered 50 videolink lessons, all using our newly-developed interactive PPTs.
In addition to our Videolink Program, our Home Classroom Program - which originally was developed to provide online lessons to children under self-isolation or home-quarantine - has received very positive feedback from parents, partners and beneficiaries. This program consists of volunteers teaching children in groups of five in their homes. Since May, over 100 volunteers have provided 1109 lessons to around 649 students in 124 home classrooms. We are planning to expand this teaching model in order to reach more disadvantaged and rural students in China. Our aim is to create more opportunities for them to learn, practice and improve their English.
