Challenge

Tumaini Innovation Center has been a beacon of hope for street youth in Eldoret. Over the past decade, our model has supported 162 graduates across seven vocational departments, including engineering, welding, and beauty. With 41 enrolled students, we are expanding our infrastructure with support from USAID ASHA, adding advanced classrooms, labs, and dining facilities for 300 students. This GlobalGiving project seeks additional funds to complete the expansion, ensuring a sustainable future.

Solution

This project will contribute to completing the expansion of the center's infrastructure. Specifically, funds will cover essential furniture, construction materials, and equipment for new classrooms, TVET labs, and kitchen/dining facilities. This will allow Tumaini to accommodate up to 300 students, providing them with high-quality vocational training and a nurturing environment for growth. The expanded facility will empower more youth with the skills needed to secure sustainable livelihoods.

Long-Term Impact

Our program's impact is already evident through the innovative businesses our students have launched. One, a solar alert system developed through human-centered design and research, showcases the ingenuity fostered at Tumaini. Another is a welding and fabrication business, employing two of our past graduates full-time. These ventures highlight the long-term potential of our training, where students not only gain technical skills but also enter the workforce as entrepreneurs and professionals.
