This project will engage 2000 male and female students in sports (soccer and basketball) in primary and secondary schools after school program. It will be an opportunity for students to engage in extra activities rather dangerous activities such as drug abuse, bulling, sexual behavior and provide forum for them to discuss health issues which in turn will help to reduce early pregnancy and HIV/AIDS infections since the Iringa region ranked the second with 11.3% HIV/AIDS infections nationally.
In Iringa municipal there many problems in primary and secondary schools and some of these problems are such as drug abuse, early pregnancy, absenteeism, dropout, HIV/AIDS infections and school gender based violence. Some of these problems are caused by lacking of programs that can attract students to participate in various activities after school hours hence affect the students performance in primary and secondary schools.
This project will help to solve the problem because the project will provide an opportunity for students to participate in an extra activity. By participating in sports activities such as soccer and basketball both male and female students will help them to avoid dangerous activities such as drug abuse, sexual behavior, criminal issues and bulling . Also will help students abstaining from early pregnancy which will reduce dropout rate for female students in Primary and secondary schools.
The long term impact for this project are to improve the performance of male and female students in primary and secondary schools, to improve the physical fitness of male and female students, reduce the school dropout rate of male and female students, reduce the absenteeism of primary and secondary students, reduce early pregnancy among the students and will reduce the rate of HIV/AIDS infections among the students of primary and secondary schools in Iringa region.
