Over the past three months, Lyra in Africa has continued to promote menstrual health and hygiene amongst rural girls in Tanzania. We became a proud Menstrual Health and Hygiene Coalition member, joining forces with other stakeholders to provide friendly and effective menstrual health support to girls and women in Tanzania. Through this coalition, we have brought the issues facing rural girls onto the agenda. We have taken the best practice models shared through this coalition back to the girls and women we work with to continue to promote the importance of safe and friendly menstrual health and hygiene practices.
The coalition has been lobbying the Ministry of Health to cancel the tax on sani pad production and to promote a conducive environment for local producers to make sanitary pads available at an affordable price.
Lyra’s ongoing peer learning initiative on menstrual hygiene and adolescent sexual reproductive health continues to make a significant impact. Over 4,000 students (both boys and girls) have benefited from these sessions. The program educates students about their bodies and how to manage them during adolescence, helping to prevent early pregnancies, and encouraging them to stay in school and complete their education.
Lyra is immensely grateful for your donation! Through your donations we will continue to conduct menstruation hygiene management and adolescent reproductive health training for rural school students in Iringa. We appreciate your continued support, which enables us to carry out these vital initiatives. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of girls and women in Tanzania. Thank you!
