Thanks to your generous contributions, Lyra in Africa has made significant strides in supporting menstrual hygiene among secondary school girls in Tanzania. Through your donations, we've been able to provide reusable sanitary pads to 208 girls across our partner schools in the Iringa region. This initiative has not only alleviated the financial burden associated with menstrual hygiene products but has also empowered these girls to attend school confidently and with dignity each month.
One student from Lulanzi Secondary School shared her gratitude, stating, "I am very thankful for the reusable sanitary pads. They have helped me sit comfortably in class without the fear of staining my uniform. I am now able to concentrate in class even during my period, unlike before when I was using the old piece of cloth. The likelihood of staining my uniform was high, causing a lack of concentration".
In our November 2023 report, we highlighted the success of the Menstrual Hygiene Management and Adolescent Reproductive Health training, which was made possible by your support. This training was rolled out to nine secondary schools in Iringa, benefiting 3166 girls. It played a pivotal role in equipping these girls with new skills and reshaping their attitudes towards menstrual health and hygiene. We are delighted to observe that there has been an increase in girls' school attendance in these schools since the training because they now have the information on how to safely manage their menstrual health.
Expanding on this success, we've integrated Menstrual Hygiene Management into our existing Digital Citizen Clubs in partner schools. This inclusion has sparked more active engagement among students in conversations surrounding menstrual health and hygiene, further promoting awareness and positive behavior change.
From our work on the ground in Tanzania, we see how a simple intervention, like providing sanitary pads, education, and awareness raising, can transform a girl's ability to manage their periods safely, with dignity, and without shame and stay in school. There are so many more girls who can benefit from this intervention in rural Tanzania. Can you help them by making a further donation to our campaign? Every donation truly makes a big difference to the lives of rural girls in Tanzania. Thank you!
