Together towards the right to adequate housing

Reinforcing adobe bricks
Reinforcing adobe bricks

” Estelberto (promotor)

Thanks to your generosity, 23 families in La Montaña are working step by step to achieve adequate housing:

Step 1: Recognize risks and vulnerabilities. In the Monte Alegre community, 23 families are working together to secure their right to adequate housing. Through a participatory diagnosis process, which has enabled them to create community maps of socio-environmental risks, the participants have become aware of the natural hazards they face and the underlying causes of their vulnerabilities.

Step 2: Designing Adequate Housing. During the participatory design stage, participants created scaled drawings of their land and living spaces based on their family activities and needs. Through the exchange of traditional and technical knowledge, they identified solutions to ensure safe and adequate housing conditions. Simultaneously, they learned about the properties of soil as a construction material.

Step 3: Community Organization. Subsequently, the community formed a committee to oversee the process, establishing responsibilities and a timeline. The commitments of the families and Cooperación Comunitaria were outlined in a letter signed by all parties.

Testimonials:

"Working with the land suits me because it is readily available and inexpensive. All it takes is gathering the adobe bricks and putting in the effort to complete the work. We will save some money this way.." Agripino (participant)

"This way of building completely changes people's lives. It is very nice and highly recommended for other neighbors. I had never built a house like this before; I had used other types of materials, but this method is very interesting to me because it doesn't require much concrete. In this earthquake-prone area, I learned how to build safely. It provides lifelong benefits for the family." Estelberto (promoter)
