In Rwanda, 20% of female students miss over 50 school days annually due to a lack of menstrual products. This robs them of education, health, and confidence. Many resort to unsafe alternatives like old clothes, risking infections and reinforcing menstrual stigma. Dufatanye Organization is changing this by offering eco-friendly, washable sanitary pads and fostering open conversations about menstruation, empowering women and girls to thrive without barriers.
In Rwanda, 20% of female students miss over 50 school days yearly due to a lack of menstrual products. Many resort to unsafe alternatives, risking infections and stigma. At Dufatanye Organization, we're changing this by providing eco-friendly, washable sanitary pads and fostering open conversations about menstruation. Together, we can keep girls in school, protect their health, and restore their confidence.
We empower women and girls in Rwanda's Green Villages of Hope through reusable sanitary pads made from locally sourced banana fiber. In partnership with The Minazi Impact, we've designed pads that are eco-friendly, durable (lasting up to two years), and empowering-made by women, for women, creating jobs and fostering economic independence. This sustainable solution saves money, reduces waste, and supports menstrual health.
Our project goes beyond providing pads-it's about lasting change. By ensuring access to reusable sanitary pads, we help keep girls in school, reduce infections, and break menstrual stigma. Environmentally, we cut waste from disposables. Economically, we create jobs for women, fostering independence. With every girl empowered, we build a healthier, more equal future for Rwanda. Together, we can break the cycle of period poverty.
