Dear friends,
We have been so fortunate to be able to take our stunting prevention program to our neighbours in the district of Katingan. An hour's drive from YUM's Central Kalimantan offices, we worked closely with 7 (seven) Community Health Posts (or Posyandu) in the sub-district of Kasongan Lama.
Throughout 2024, the program has reached more than 260 mothers, including 97 pregnant women in the sub-district. This was made possible by the partnership we had with 15 women volunteer health workers who were enthusiastic and motivated to spread awareness around stunting prevention and good maternal health. Besides receiving knowledge training on various topics such as the importance of breastfeeding, nutrition, complementary feeding, and good hygiene and sanitation, the volunteer health workers were also provided with interpersonal skills to boost their confidence and presentation skills.
Here's what some of the mothers had to say about the program:
R, 23, shared how the program changed her routine: "Since I joined the program, I've become more disciplined with my diet and health, and I feel more confident about my baby's well-being."
B, 27, also reflected on her journey: "At first, I was lazy about taking iron supplements, but after learning about their importance, I now take them regularly and am more diligent about my pregnancy check-ups."
As we reflect on our one-year partnership with Kasongan Lama, we're reminded that it's the human connections and the friendships that we make on our journey that are the most meaningful. We leave our friends with heavy hearts and wish them the best in their continued efforts to provide the best support to mothers, babies and children in their sub-district.
Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Yayasan Usaha Mulia (YUM)
