In November, we celebrated the first cohort of 23 women who graduated from the "Basic Education for Peace and Nonviolence" training program.
These women have been meeting for several months to study peace and conflict resolution theory and practice. This training program was made possible as part of a larger project called Citizens Engaged in Environmental Justice for All (CEEJA), which is a collaboration between several organizations and networks of Prey Lang and Preah Roka forest communities. Women have deep knowledge of their communities, families, and the forest; thus, they are well-positioned to be problem solvers and peacemakers.
The participants studied active nonviolence, conflict resolution, child protection policies, and learned about the goals of the CEEJA project. They reported gaining confidence in themselves as leaders and agents of change.
Throughout the training sessions, they followed COVID-19 protocols like social distancing, wearing masks, and washing hands.
If COVID-19 continues to be under control, more cohorts will study and graduate in the spring of 2021.
