Women's Empowerment in Africa

On March 25, the High Atlas Foundation (HAF) had the pleasure of attending an Iftar in Casablanca, hosted by Intrepid Travel, our valued partner.

This gathering was more than just a shared meal—it was a space for dialogue, reflection, and action on an important theme: women’s inclusion in tourism.

During the event, Intrepid Travel shared its inspiring journey and the impact it has made alongside partners like the High Atlas Foundation.

Through collaborative efforts, Intrepid and its foundation have worked to create more inclusive opportunities in tourism, ensuring that local communities, especially women, benefit from sustainable travel initiatives by breaking barriers and fostering economic empowerment. Their vision is helping reshape the tourism landscape in Morocco.

As part of its commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism, HAF organizes eco-friendly travel experiences that connect visitors with local communities and their projects. These immersive tours highlight cultural preservation and community development, including:

• A visit to the Akrich Nursery, a groundbreaking initiative that integrates human development with cultural heritage. Here, travelers learn about native tree planting efforts, take part in reforestation activities, and gain insight into the environmental sustainability and interculturalism projects led by HAF.
• A visit at the Zarbiat Achbarou Cooperative, where women artisans showcase their craftsmanship and share their journey toward economic independence. These skilled craftswomen produce traditional handmade carpets and other goods, ensuring that their cultural heritage thrives while creating sustainable livelihoods.

Beyond the insightful discussions, the Iftar gathering served as a powerful moment of exchange and connection, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in building a more inclusive and sustainable tourism industry. It was a reminder that when women seize their opportunities, entire communities flourish.
