ACCESS NATURE creates safe, educational and enjoyable FREE nature programs for the disabled and disadvantaged. Spending time in nature improves mood, energy, stress and well being. Our goal is to provide programing and education to those we serve, so that they too can gain the benefits of nature. Currently we work with the intellectually challenged, mentally ill, and non-English speaking immigrants. We have also launched a free educational workshop to teach other groups to duplicate our work.
People with disabilities and underserved populations usually don't have the same access to nature experiences and environmental education, as the general public. Physical limitations, finances, fear, and anxiety contribute to this. Scientific studies have shown that exposure to nature decreases anxiety, depression, and negative rumination, while at the same time increasing well-being and creative problem-solving. Access Nature believes that ALL people should be able to access these benefits.
The Access Nature Program of the Lewisboro Land Trust reaches out to organizations that serve people with disabilities and the disadvantaged to enable them to experience the benefits of nature. Each program is designed to fit the unique abilities and needs of the individual group, using educational naturalists or work programs. The nature experience is held at a nearby preserve or park. Our coordinator works with the organization's staff to create ongoing nature outings for their clients.
The goal of Access Nature is to provide an easy, comfortable, safe experience with nature while educating the participants on the benefits gained. The ultimate goal is self reliance, having gained the knowledge and confidence to enjoy nature on their own. Creating the ability and desire to experience nature is a LIFETIME TOOL which has a long-term positive effect on mood, well being, and cognitive function while, at the same time, reducing anxiety and depression. Please help us fulfill this goal.
