Sammy is a five year old boy with cerebral palsy. When Operation Mercy first met him, he could not move at all—he was only able to cry and be spoon-fed by his mother. After doing physical therapy exercises with him and teaching his mother how to do them as well, we started to notice that Sammy’s mother started to take better care of her son. We encouraged her to continue with the daily exercises and showed her ways how to improve her son’s physical and cognitive condition.
Sammy’s mother was full of joy when he was able to identify the first controlled active movement of his head. Day by day he is slowly making progress because of the exercises and because of the care of his mum. Currently we are working with Sammy to be able to sit on his own. Sammy’s mom is also helping with his exercises daily. Her increasing love and care for him have truly made a difference in his development. At Operation Mercy we believe in holistic care which includes encouraging and supporting the caregiver just as much as the person with a disability.
