Bacha Care Foundation (BCF) was established in 2009 as a disability rights organization founded and led by people with disabilities. BCF works to advance the rights and opportunities of over 1000 people with disabilities in Kenya, by alleviating their plight in order to live decent and dignified lives and operationalizing inclusion. Please, help us continue our important work by making a donation-even a small amount helps.
Many disabled people in Kenya, live in abject poverty. They have limited opportunities for access to education, health, and suitable housing and employment opportunities. The majority continue to face stigmatization in a society mostly due to a lack of awareness of their rights despite the government policy of mainstreaming disability in all government ministries. While noting that some persons with disabilities have not been aggressive and are often neglected.
The project will promote opportunities for people with disabilities, to obtain decent and productive work, based on the principles of freedom, equity, security, and human dignity. This will be achieved through decent work, advocacy, knowledge building, and technical cooperation services and partnerships. It will boost the living standards of PWDs where they initiate and manage their own activities and compete effectively in job and product markets.
PWDs having their own resources, such as owning assets or receiving income from a paid job, put them on a more equal footing with non-disable people and strengthens their bargaining position within the society. PWDs, having their own income or assets is critical in securing an adequate standard of living and effectively support their full participation as entrepreneurs with disabilities in entrepreneurship development activities, be self-reliant and cater for themselves
