Summary

This project will support 50 girls with disabilities in three schools in Kajiado North Sub-County by providing mentorship, education, and menstrual hygiene products like sanitary pads and pants. These girls face heightened challenges, being three times more vulnerable to abuse and exploitation. Often marginalized, their basic hygiene needs are unmet. The project will empower them to maintain dignity, attend school regularly, and stay protected from abuse, fostering inclusion and equality.

Challenge

Girls with disabilities in Kajiado face severe challenges. Over 65% of Kenyan women and girls cannot afford sanitary pads and 30-40% of girls miss school during menstruation. For girls with disabilities, the situation is dire; families struggle to afford pads leading to absenteeism and loss of dignity. These girls often reliant on others for mobility, are vulnerable to sexual predators. Recently, 50 girls in three schools were identified as needing urgent menstrual hygiene support and protection

Solution

Distribution of pads and pants: Provide menstrual hygiene products regularly. Workshops: educate girls, caregivers, and parents on menstrual health and personal safety. Community Awareness: Run campaigns targeting caregivers, motorcycle riders, and abusers to reduce exploitation. Law Enforcement Training: Train police and health officials to protect vulnerable girls. Mentorship Program: Empower girls with disabilities through mentorship to boost confidence, stay in school, and make informed life

Long-Term Impact

This project will empower girls with disabilities in Kajiado County by addressing their basic needs, enabling them to attend school regularly and live with dignity. It aims to reduce teenage pregnancies, improve menstrual hygiene, and boost self-esteem. Involving parents, community leaders, and stakeholders will create an inclusive, supportive environment. This initiative will enhance educational attainment and life opportunities, ensuring a brighter future for girls with disabilities.
