Our Empowered Me program has started! Empowered Me is a holistic enrichment program designed to empower local youth with the tools and attitudes they need to be winners in life. During the last several weeks we partnered with First Bank VI to offer Financial Literacy classes for students ages 10-16. These students got the opportunity to participate in age specific classes all geared towards them becoming more financially savvy!
The courses included:
Money Basics – A fun approach to learning about money. Topics include learning what money is, understanding the value of money, tracing your money, and setting financial goals.
Budget & Savings – Success in life is easier when you understand how to manage money. Topics include budgeting and planning (including hands-on practice), spending vs. smart spending, income and borrowing.
Money Management - Building good financial habits early can help young people avoid money troubles in the future. Participants will learn about a variety of tools and resources they can apply in order to effectively manage their personal finances and make wise decisions about money.
On Saturday March 18th, we will wrap up with our first cohort of students! This Spring, we will also offer opportunities in Life Skill, Health & Wellness, Cultural Awareness, Creative Expression, Career Exploration & Community Service. Registration for our Spring session is OPEN and classes will begin on April 1st.
