UNESCO links up Ocean Blue and Princeton students

By Karisa Arterbury | Director of Operations, OBP Blue Schools Founder

Since OBP Blue Schools pilot in 2021, UNESCO has supported and endorsed Ocean Blue Project's key program through their Green Citizen Initiative. Now, it is my pleasure to share two bits of exciting news about what's happening with OBP Blue Schools this year.

First, with OBP Blue Schools listed as a Green Citizen Project, we are able to link up with volunteers who would otherwise never know about this key youth education program.

Now, UNESCO has introduced us to Princeton students who can help streamline the program and educator training, as well as the development and implementation of anengagement strategy designed to help teachers get OBP Blue Schools in front of their students around the United States.

Second, we are working diligently behind the scenes to make the program more attainable for teachers. K-12 educators have a lot on their plates, which is why OBP Blue Schools training for educators will provide continuing education units or clock hours designed to meet the needs of the state where they teach.

OBP Blue Schools is now approved to provide clock hours for teachers licensed in the State of Washington! With several more applications submitted to date, I am excited to bring news to you in the next report detailing which watersheds where we'll be empowering our youth watershed stewards in next.

Thank you for your continued support, and for providing the resources needed to activate youth Stewardship Projects at neighborhood parks, beaches, streambanks, state parks, and along waterways for watersheds all around the U.S. We appreciate you!

Warm regards,

Karisa Arterbury
