Students lead the way for Lake Cochituate CleanUp

Hello,

Ocean Blue Project had such an impactful Earth Month in April and we’re excited to build momentum for World Ocean Day happening June 8th. It’s the day Ocean Blue was founded 11 years ago on Nye Beach in Newport, Oregon.

Today, we are proud to share a story about one of the youth-led Stewardship Activities you have contributed to through a fundraiser on our partner GlobalGiving’s platform. Temple Beth Elohim middle school students from Wellesley, Massachusetts removed 1,343 items weighing 16.5 pounds from their local watershed park.

CleanUp Crew Leader, Jess Friedman, Tikkun Olam Community Organizer at Temple Beth Elohim, shared a bit about their experience, “We had such a fun time at Lake Cochituate yesterday morning. We had 14 volunteers and 7 families that gathered to collect trash. The students were very excited to help clean up our local lake. Many of them have enjoyed this area themselves, having gone to picnic or swim in the water in the past and they were grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community.”

Without your support, projects like these would not be possible. The memories OBP Blue Schools students are making will last for a lifetime, instilling values of Stewardship and appreciation for the ocean-watershed connection. Do you know of any schools or classrooms in your local area who could benefit from OBP Blue Schools? Reach out to us and we'll provide everything you need to get started.

We appreciate your continued support and for helping us reach our goal of Empowering 17,000 students to Save the Ocean - we’re only about $1,700 from our first fundraising goal here! Thank you for helping make it happen.

Warm regards,

Karisa Arterbury,
