It has been a really challenging year.
We knew right at the beginning of last year that families were going to struggle - but we couldn't have predicted what was to follow. The violence has turned a worrying situation into a nightmare.
One of the best informed observers of Sudan says that "hundreds of thousands will die by the end of September, primarily children and pregnant women." Famine has already been declared in parts of Darfur. At the moment it is not just the violence to contend with, but floods are washing away crops and making tracks impassable. In the wake of severe shortages, prices of everything - especially food items - have soared way beyond the reach of ordinary people. Desperate mothers are struggling to feed their children.
Our villages are growing, some three times bigger than before, because of the Handpumps you have helped us install for clean water, and the Midwives and Paravets you have helped us train - often Mothers and Girls who you have helped earn a brighter future. Yet sadly, even in our villages, children are acutely malnourished.
With your help, however, we are delighted that our pilot project to deliver seed to six of our villages has been successful. This seed will be used for food now but also planted so Mothers can have a future crop to feed their families and potentially earn an income by selling any excess.
In addition to seeds, our Kids Kitchen Kits provide lentils, groundnuts and fresh vegetables to families with children under 5 so they have the protein, vitamins and minerals they so desperately need.
We have enclosed an image below showing proof of receipt of these deliveries by Mothers in the villages. You may remember that 98% of women in Darfur are illiterate. They are unable to write their name so they use their thumbprint instead.
We have now authorised deliveries to the next nine villages - so a total of 4,000 families in 15 villages will have food and seeds thanks to your support!
Patricia, Founder of Kids for Kids, says "I am so grateful for your help and so proud of our volunteers in Darfur who have enabled this to happen. We are now determined to get deliveries to as many of our villages as possible."
We are so pleased to be able to help Mothers, Girls and their families in 15 of our villages - but there are 110 Kids for Kids villages in total.
Kids Kitchen Kits cost £25 each and provide a family nutritious food to fight malnutrition.
Please could you donate a little more to help us reach as many families as possible and give more Mothers and their children hope for the future?
