Thanks to your amazing generosity, women and children are getting the nutrients they need to survive - all thanks to Goat’s milk.
Goat’s milk stops children from being malnourished, and a mother can sell surplus milk and yoghurt to earn what is often her first ever income.
With violence across the country creating food shortages, we know that women and children in our 110 villages in north Darfur have access to protein-rich goat’s milk. People cannot travel to markets and the only food source available is goat’s milk. The danger of travelling anywhere in Darfur is endangering the lives of women and children. The World Food Programme said that it expects between two and 2.5 million more people to face acute hunger in the coming months. What little food there is, is costing 500 times more than it did three weeks ago. Normal life has not just been disrupted but destroyed.
With the current situation, more goats are needed, now more than ever.
What can be done?
Sudan was already on the brink of famine at the beginning of the year, but this recent conflict has seen shortages of food, water, medicine – and everything else.
It costs just £50 ($62) to provide a goat.
£66 ($80) provides one Billy Goat to be shared between three families.
£250 ($305) provides five Nanny Goats to one family
£272 ($333) provides five Nanny Goats to a family and a Billy Goat (shared between three families).
