Dear RATA supporter,
Thank you again for your contribution so that visually impaired youth in Rwanda get skills on ICT.
Since May 2019 up to now, Rwanda Assistive Technology Access (RATA) has so far trained 17 young visually impaired on ICT under the project called: "Empower visually impaired for employment in Rwanda" because of your contribution.
Lessons such as keyboard typing using braillino braille display, text formatting, Microsoft word and excel, using internet and sending e-mails, and on how to use a smartphone were covered.
5 of them are now volunteering in our organization RATA supporting other visually impaired youth who come at our office for practice on ICT. 2 of them started their university studies this year in september and the rest are being supported to find internships in institutions that RATA is in negotiations with.
In the meantime, they are advocating in different areas of the country so that persons with disabilities in Rwanda access ICTs. Recently, they were discussing on how websites in Rwanda can be inclusive so that persons with disabilities can access them too.
RATA is a local non governmental organization in Rwanda registered under the law N0422/RGB/NGO/OC/07/2018 founded on 4th January 2018 with mission of ensuring accessible ICTs (Assistive technologies) for people with disabilities in Rwanda.
Testimony from a participant
Recently , I attended the training for visually impaired youth on ICT conducted by Rwanda Assistive Technology Access (RATA). After the training, I was able to use a smartphone creating tables in Microsoft word, sending an email and even browsing on the internet which boosted my confidence of competing at the workplace after finishing my university studies.
Anne Musengimana , 27, is a visually impaired young girl who will finish her university studies this year.
The next training is scheduled on 6th December 2019.
We couldn’t have done this without your generous support! We are deeply grateful for your contribution!
