Dima: Soar Girl in Syria

By Lila Bernard | Communication and Development Intern

Hello friends,

As a new school is approaching, we wanted to look back on Syrian Soar Girls’ accomplishments throughout last year.

As Soar Girls in Syria are experiencing a plethora of issues, Project Soar’s site has become a safe place where Soar Girls find the support they need, thanks to the facilitators and their peers. At the end of the program, Soar Girls expressed their thanks and talked about the ways in which they changed. Dima for example says “The program was a transformative journey through which I became confident and was able to overcome personal challenges.”

Soar Girls in Syria follow our twenty-five workshop program in which they learn about their bodies, their abilities to carve their future and their rights. As such, whereas only 52.17% of them thought so before the program, at the end of the workshops 95.65% of Soar Girls claimed that they now have the tools to care for their mental health. Additionally, whereas 73.91% of Soar Girls did not believe they had potential before the program, only 34.78% of them remained unsure of their capacities as the workshops came to an end. This aspect is highlighted by Dima who explains that “Confidence-building exercises as well as strategies for managing stress greatly helped me regain confidence and hope for my future.”

Your support is essential for us to continue helping at-risk Syrian Soar Girls like Dima and her peers build a successful future filled with hope !

With Love, the Project Soar Team
