Meet Agnes, a Smallholder Farmer from Chikoma Village
Agnes, a 35-year-old mother of three, is a smallholder farmer in Chikoma Village, Vubwi District, Eastern Province. She, like many women in her community, faced significant challenges in increasing her crop yields due to limited access to quality farming inputs and technical knowledge.
Before Receiving Support
Struggling to Make Ends Meet
Before receiving support, Agnes struggled to produce enough soya beans and maize to feed her family and generate income. Her crops were often affected by poor soil quality, inadequate fertilizers, and insufficient irrigation. This led to:
1.Low yields
2.Reduced income
3.Food insecurity
After Receiving Support
A New Era of Prosperity
Agnes received high-quality soya bean and maize seeds, fertilizers, and irrigation equipment through our program. She also attended training sessions on best farming practices, learning about:
1.Soil preparation
2.Crop rotation
3.Irrigation management
The Impact
Increased yields: Agnes's soya bean and maize yields increased by 50% and 30%, respectively.
Improved income: She generated more income from selling her excess produce, enabling her to support her family's needs.
Enhanced food security: Agnes's family now enjoys a more diverse and nutritious diet, improving their overall well-being.
Empowerment: Agnes gained confidence in her farming abilities, becoming a role model for other women in her community.
Quotes from Agnes
"The inputs and training helped me to improve my farming skills and increase my yields. I'm now able to provide for my family's needs."
"I'm proud to be a successful farmer, and I encourage other women to take up farming as a viable source of income."
