School classroom update
![]()
For the past two months, we have been busy at the Collective for Orphan Care and Education (COCE).
We participated in the GlobalGiving Project Accelerator from March 9 through March 25 and raised just over $10,000.This was a huge success because it meant that we were able to begin construction for not one but two primary school classrooms in Nangina Village, Busia County, western Kenya. These classrooms will serve up to 90 students each year, many of them young girls who will not otherwise receive an education.
Construction for the classrooms started on April 1, 2020 and substantial progress has been made. The goal is to have both classrooms ready for the summer semester. We are continuing to raise money to cover the roofing, electrical work, and painting costs and to pay the building manager who has been working countless hours for free.
Once the structure itself is completed, we will need to purchase desks and collect donations for school supplies.
We will keep you updated as things progress. Your generosity in this time of uncertainty is making primary education a reality for at least 90 rural Kenyan children in 2020. This may be the most precious gift we can give these children.
Thank you for your continued support as we complete these classrooms and assist children in their educational pursuits.
