1. Since the release of the WRFS biomass results, we have been creating a new strategic management plan thatwill allow for even further protection and restoration of marine life within the sanctuary. Take a look at some of the photos from our annniversary celebration!
Improvements to the sanctuary 2017-2022
- 55% increase in fish biomass
- 47% increase in fish density
- 28% increase in coral cover
2. The past few months, the WRFS has been working on forming partnerships and financial sustainability. Here are a few that we're very excited about!:
- Working with a Masters student to conduct an economic assesment of ecosystem services provided by the WRFS.
- Conservation tours within the WRFS in partnership with one of Jamaica's biggest tour company.
- Sponsored SCUBA certification and coral gardening training for 3 community members to assist in WRFS coral restoration efforts.
3. The WRFS team, in association with Shaw OpCo COrporation (Tx), was able to gift a scholarship voucher to 3 community children through an school environmental education programme. The students learnt a great deal about the relationship between the environment and human health. It was great to see the children so curious and invested in creating a clean environment fo the improvement of their health.
Thank you to everyone for the continued support!
