Between September 2024 and February 2025, we successfully conducted two Creative Capacity Building (CCB) workshops and ICT & Business workshops, empowering more than 64 Tanzanian community members. These programs fostered self-reliance and contributed to local economic development by equipping participants with creative skills and entrepreneurial knowledge through workshops, mentorship, and collaborative projects. Participants gained the tools and confidence to transform their creative potential into tangible results.
Program Objectives
Enhance the creative skills of communities and provide resources to design and build technologies addressing community challenges.
Deliver training in business development and entrepreneurial skills related to creative industries.
Facilitate collaborative projects showcasing participants' creative abilities and promoting community engagement.
Establish a sustainable network for ongoing support and collaboration among participants.
Contribute to the economic empowerment of the community by creating income-generating opportunities through creative endeavors.
Program Activities
Creative Capacity Building (CCB)
Three intensive workshops were delivered to 63 participants, focusing on designing and creating technologies to address Tanzanian community challenges. The curriculum emphasized practical sessions with hands-on training and personalized guidance. Participants received comprehensive material and resource support, including access to a Makerspace.
Basic Business Skills (BBS)
Workshops covered business planning, marketing, financial management, and the legal aspects of running a creative business. Participants integrated prototype development into their learning during extended hours.
Beyond CCB
This program built upon foundational CCB skills, focusing on advanced project refinement, business development, scaling, and sustainability.
ICT Workshop
In January 2025, we conducted an ICT workshop, training 14 participants in Arduino, coding, AI, and programming. With MIT facilitators and students, participants received close mentorship, and two projects— a car overtaking system and a mobile microscope—successfully upcycled Samsung devices.
