Summary

A 3 days long intensive and extreme rainfall on 26 September, 2024 has caused flooding and landslides in many parts of Nepal. More than 2000 people have displaced and some are still missing.The death toll recorded till date are 228. Still monsoon is continuing and remain few days. Many hills roads, bridges, highway have been collapsed and transportation from Kathmandu almost close for few days. People in the journey remain in between. Rescue process is continuing by government but not enough.

Challenge

Major problems in the flood affected districts are urgently need for nutritious food,clean water,temporory shelters.Now, affected victim families request for longrun income generation oppurtunities such as fresh vegetable production.Few efforts from Government and Redcross involved for the rescues are not enough.So that proposed project will address to resolve the immediate need of nutritious fooding,sanitation and clean water.The fresh vegetable production technology generate attractive income.

Solution

Based on available resources the implementing organization will be immediteltely move to affected districts where people remains in road and location.After reaching to location contact the district disaster management committe,flood victims and government bodies for declaring the support and provide nutritious food, clean water,medicines,shelter materials,etc based on available resources for the particular district and location.MRC Nepal supported inputs and skills for longrun income generation.

Long-Term Impact

The potential long term impact of project will be the availability of nutritious food,clean water and sanitation measures for the flood affected victims.This support in long term impact on sociopsycho treatment and overcome stress and shocks.They are now facing hand to mouth problem,shelter problem and health and sanitation problem.The project also motivate and counselling for better living. MRC Nepal supported technical know how and skills of vegetable production for longrun income generation.
