Visit from local school!
Dear Friend,
Greetings and warm regards from the We Need Books Multilingual Library team.
Spring has been an increasingly busy time for the Library. Our after school tutoring program for elementary school students, which started last August will conclude in a month. We are pleased to see the positive impact the program has had on 35 young participants, and we are preparing for its final review and assessment by the students, their teachers, and their parents. Organizing and delivering this program has been challenging but very rewarding. On our next report, we will share the assessment results.
Spring traditionally is conference time and WNB had its share of participations in various local and international conferences. We are singling out two; in March Ioanna Nissiriou participated in “Change Talks – Civil society dialogues on social and climate justice” in Brussels. The conference was organized by the Climate of Change campaign, in the framework of the DEAR Programme funded by the European Union. In May Emma Raibaut presented our work at the UNESCO RILA Spring School 2023: The Arts of Integrating, held in Glasgow, Scotland.
In March we celebrated International Women’s Day by hosting a workshop on Gender Equity with participants from over 10 different countries, who are now living in Greece.
Our community outreach programs continued and we are happy to share that since our last report we held 42 workshops and events for children and 32 for adults.
During this time our collection has grown considerably, due to significant donations in English, Greek, Arabic and Bulgarian books by companies and individuals!
Lastly, we would like to share that we are getting ready to participate in Refugee Week with storytelling for children in Farsi, Arabic and Greek, a workshop on compassion, through photography and yoga and our very popular writing therapy workshop.
We have a lot of work to do, and your generosity helps us get the work done. If you'd like to know more about our events please follow us on social media!
Thank you,
Margarita Sianou & Ioanna Nisyriou
