Green Action Project Follow-Up Report - January 2025

We are excited to share the latest updates on the Green Action Project. Thanks to your continued support, we have made significant progress in empowering young leaders in Ghana to champion environmental sustainability.

Key Updates:

  • 30 Participants Selected: We have successfully selected 30 participants for the Green Action Project, with women representing 60% of the group.
  • Trainings Conducted: Out of the six planned trainings, four have been held so far. The remaining two trainings, initially scheduled for November 2024, have been postponed to this year due to challenges beyond our control.
  • Green Action Summit: The Green Action Summit was held successfully on November 14, 2024, in Accra, Ghana, bringing together over 300 participants to address sustainable development through youth ecopreneurship and community engagement.

The Green Action Summit 2024 (First Edition)

The Green Action Summit, held on November 14, 2024, in Accra, Ghana, brought together over 300 participants to address the urgent need for sustainable development through youth ecopreneurship and community engagement. The summit's theme, "Building a Sustainable Future Through Youth Ecopreneurship and Community Engagement," highlighted the critical role of young people in driving innovative solutions to environmental challenges.

The summit aimed to empower the next generation of leaders and innovators to take bold actions against climate change, environmental degradation, and resource depletion. By focusing on youth ecopreneurship, the summit sought to inspire and equip young people with the skills and knowledge needed to create sustainable enterprises and engage their communities in meaningful climate action.

Event Highlights

Participants and Collaboration

  • The summit saw the participation of over 300 individuals, including 264 in-person attendees and 52 online participants.
  • The Green Action Summit was organized by the World Inspiring Network in collaboration with key partners such as the Africa Business Bureau, Accra Metropolitan Assembly, GlobalGiving, the International Trade Centre's Ye! Community, Engagement Global gGmbH, Tree Africa, Wiki Green Initiative, NCVO Ghana, and others.

Opening Remarks

  • Maxwell Odonkor, Executive Director of the World Inspiring Network, delivered powerful opening remarks. He emphasized the importance of youth in driving sustainable development and highlighted the summit's role as a platform for innovation and collaboration. Key messages from his address included:
    • "The role of young people as innovators, leaders, and change-makers has never been more vital."
    • "Building a sustainable future requires collective effort and unwavering determination."

Keynote Speeches

  • Natasha Sena Akorli, General Manager, Africa Business Bureau: Spoke on "Eco-Entrepreneurship: The Pathway for a Sustainable Future," emphasizing the importance of sustainable business practices.
  • Marie Ferguson, Co-Founder, Awæcnian Academy: Delivered insights on "Effective Community Engagement: Building Movements for Environmental Change," highlighting the power of community-driven initiatives.
  • Daniel Asomani, Project Lead, Accra Youth Climate Action Fund: Shared his expertise on youth-led climate action initiatives and expressed gratitude to Bloomberg Philanthropies for supporting the Youth Climate Action Fund.

Panel Discussions:

  • The summit featured interactive panel discussions on the theme "Building a Sustainable Future Through Youth Ecopreneurship and Community Engagement." Panelists included:
    • Dan-Chi Tran, Programs Assistant, World Inspiring Network
    • Mary Lancelot, Founder, MLC Fashion
    • Vanessa-Irene Omoigui, Media, Marketing & Communication Assistant, World Inspiring Network
    • Carla Hermanussen, Research Associate, Technical University of Dresden, Germany
    • Mohammed Tangna Kataba, Security Analyst with a focus on Military Sociology, Human Security, and Sustainability

Artistic and Cultural Performances:

  • George Mireku A.K.A Belebele performed "Save The Planet," an artistic piece emphasizing environmental conservation. Lyrics
  • Vibrant cultural performances by Presbyterian Methodist SHS students added a lively and unifying spirit to the event.

Networking Opportunities:

  • The summit provided ample opportunities for participants to network, share ideas, and forge new collaborations.

Outcomes & Achievements:

  • Empowerment: The summit empowered young people with knowledge and skills related to ecopreneurship and climate action.
  • Collaboration: It fostered collaboration and networking among young changemakers, leading to the formation of new partnerships.
  • Innovation: Participants generated innovative ideas and solutions for addressing environmental challenges.
  • Awareness: The event raised awareness about the importance of youth engagement in climate action.
