Studies in the midst of a Pandemic and Donate a Book Drive at Khadija Girls College

By Ahmed Raza | Project Leader

When colleges and universities were allowed to re-open after prolonged lockdown, the ministry of Education along with the Intermediate Board, issued strict Covid Guidelines /SOPs to be implemented and followed across all educational institutions in the country. Khadija Girls College designed and implemented its own Covid SOPs in line with the issued guidelines to ensure the safety of its students and staff. Our Covid safety plan focused on three major areas:

Availability of facilities and modification of infrastructure:

  • Proper washing areas.
  • Availability of Masks and sanitisers at the campus.
  • Adequate ventilation in classrooms.
  • De-densification i.e. reduction of class size and arrangement of alternate rooms for conducting classes.
  • Ensuring a difference of 6 feet between each desk.
  • Post signs in visible locations that promote everyday protective measures.
  • Restrictions on using Communal Spaces like College Canteens especially during break times.
  • Provisions for proper waste disposal.

General Preventive Measures.

  • Daily screening of student’s temperature.
  • No entry without a mask.
  • Suspension of Morning assembly
  • Suspension of major student activities including sports to avoid congestion and overcrowding.
  • Regular schedule for increased routine cleaning and disinfection of classrooms.

Students and staff training.

  • To teach basic principles of social distancing
  • To educate staff and students about when they should stay home
  • To explain Hand Hygiene and Respiratory Etiquettes
  • To encourage staff and students to bring their own water bottle to minimize the use and touching of water taps/ fountains

Donate a Book Drive

In order to foster a sense of social and ethical responsibility in its students, Khadija Girls College conducted a “Donate a Book” drive at the start of the current academic year. Since a great number of our students belongs to underprivileged backgrounds and it is hard for them to afford the expensive academic books. Therefore, the senior students of the college were encouraged to donate their old books to the needy junior students. The senior year students also collected books from their friends, families and acquaintances for the book donation program.
