Activities for Flood Damage on South Korea

By Juhee Lee | Coordinator

[Emergency relief for torrential rain]

The heat wave is here. Strong sunlight in weather over 30 degrees Celsius dries many things wet with floods, but we cannot stop worrying about heat-related diseases. From dawn, the victims’ time to clean up the house even a little more and return to their old daily life begins. We are trying to provide various support so that the victims do not get tired of continuous work in the hot weather.

First, we will provide large refrigerators and freezers in front of the township office and the town hall. Victims and volunteers can get sports drinks and ice free of charge.
Secondly, we will support large dehumidifiers and fans. It is an essential item needed to dry wet houses. But there are still difficulties that there is not enough manpower to take care of it.
Finally, we would like to provide large refrigerators and goods for the evacuation shelter.

Already, we visit evacuation shelters every day, providing various supplies to the victims. However, due to the large number of victims and the lack of support items, we are always thinking about additional support items.

In addition, the victims are struggling with the most basic hygiene management due to broken home appliances. We are also supporting bathing. Bath coupons we made were distributed to victims so that they could visit the public bathhouse at any time they wanted.

Additional on-site investigations are also underway as areas affected by torrential rain are extensive.
While meeting with the village foreman, we collected the current status of the damage and identified the direction in which support is needed. As we searched various areas, we were heartbroken that many people still needed a lot of help. In some areas, there were few places where manpower was not even supported.

We are trying to convey a helping hand to the marginalized area, but there are so many difficulties that we need a lot of additional support. Our strength alone is not enough, so please give us a lot of attention and support.
