Despite the recent catastrophic events of an earthquake and the president's assassination which have left Haiti in an even more precarious position than earlier in the year, the communities served by this program continue to be hopeful.
Since last summer, there have been two seed distributions to several communities and some harvest success. However, the program continues to struggle from lack of funding to purchase tools, and hire and retain Ag technicians to support the farmers and other participants. As a result, many beneficiaries are unable to plant year- round and therefore the overall harvest yield is low.
At this time, many participating communities are experiencing a drought. We are hopeful the next seed distribution and planting for the October - November timeframe will proceed as planned.
