Somalia confirmed the first case of the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on 16 March2020. On 26th April 2020, the last update of COVID-19 is almost 390 confirmed cases with 23 resulting fatalities and 10 recovered- some of the cases are imported with recent travel history to affected countries while some other cases has no travel history thereby signifying human-to-human transmission. Somali government closed all airports, ports and land crossings and declared a public health emergency.
The coronavirus situation of Somalia is gradually increasing day after day and so far 390 people are reported to have the virus. This project will take its role of COVID-19 prevention and BUDO NGO health workers will train local health care workers and target communities (500HH) in Buloburte district to prevent COVID-19 spread by using WHO & MOH guidelines, and mobilize the community to minimize non-essential contacts between individuals, such as suspension of mass gatherings, stop hand shaking
This project will make the community alert that this disease of COVID-19 is a world-wide disaster, and will improve community mobilization on how to identify signs & symptoms, isolate or at least separate suspected patients of COVID-19 from the community. So, we're anticipating that this project will enhance community awareness on COVID-19 among the community, and prevent 500HH from COVID-19 providing PPE(Personal Preventive Equipment) such as masks, gloves, alcohol, soap and WASH hand facility.
