In our last report we shared that our Pilot Project was in the works to provide emergency aid to families in six villages - emergency food to prevent starvation. We are so happy to tell you that not only did we successfully get aid to six villages, but we have now provided emergency grain to eat and seed to plant to families in fifteen villages! That is 4,000 families who can continue to survive through the famine, and plan ahead for next year's crop harvest.
We have found another way to help - by providing Kids' Kitchen Kits to help feed the youngest children, under five years old, who face the most difficulties during a famine. Our kits contain lentils, ground nuts and cooking oil full of essential protein and nutrients which have been dangerously lacking in children's diets all year. We are now getting the details of all beneficiaries with children aged 5 and under in 10 more villages. This will provide our Kids Kitchen Kits to nearly 5,000 children. Of course, it is not enough but we are determined to make certain everything we provide gets to the right recipients. It is touching to be sent (via mobile) photographs of their receipts signed with a thumbprint: 98% of women are illiterate. We are prioritising the health of the children - can you, too?
Tuesday 3rd December is GivingTuesday. A wonderful chance to see your donation go even further, as GlobalGiving will boost your donation during this 24 hour period (EST). If you can donate a Kids Kitchen Kit, GlobalGiving will add on a little bit extra which we will put towards providing emergency seed for families to plant for next year's harvest.
How does it work? Any donation with a value up to $1,800 USD per unique donor per project will receive a boost from GlobalGiving. The more donations that Kids for Kids projects receive, the larger the share of GlobalGiving Bonus Funds go to supporting families in Darfur! So please set a reminder in your calendars, and let all your friends know about this marvellous chance for their donations to go further simply by giving on a specific day!
And GivingTuesday of course marks the beginning of the Holiday Season! What better gift than a Kids for Kids Holiday Certificate, made personally for your loved ones! Can you imagine what you would prioritise as urgent for you and your family if you lived in Darfur? Is it a Kids Kitchen Kit for Emergency Food, a goat, a sack of seed, water for your children, a mosquito net, repairs for your village handpump, medicine, veterinary drugs? What would you need? Please will you donate your choices, and you can send Gift Certificates right from the GlobalGiving website as you check out.
You can bring joy to those you love and save the life of a child in Darfur. We want this to be the best Kids for Kids’ Holiday Season ever! We thank you again for your dedication and generosity towards families that are being forgotten. You are a star!
