The Emergency Naqab Project emerged in response to the escalating crisis following October 7th, 2023. As Palestinian Bedouin communities in the Naqab faced increased vulnerability, marginalization, and neglect, women hold a unique role and have unique experiences that are often overlooked within these challenges. Therefore, our program works with women and girls to facilitate individual and communal resilience through political education.
During these impossibly difficult times, we are working to support Bedouin women communities in the South, which have been decimated since October 7th and forgotten by the wider Israeli public. While there are other initiatives focused on humanitarian aid, our work is geared towards building communal resilience in the face of ongoing trauma. Our program focuses on women and girls, who are uniquely impacted, as well as positioned to influence their immediate surroundings and wider communities.
At Sadaka-Reut, we have been working with communities for many years, and we work with local groups to strengthen resilience in the face of extreme trauma. We have groups for mothers who own small businesses, for recent high school graduates, for middle schoolers, and for artists.
Once this crisis is over, there will still be a long road to recovery for communities all over the region. We hope to continue providing Bedouin communities with services that meet their shifting needs as our reality continues to constantly shift and change.
