Meet Juana’s Family
Juana’s family of 5 has resided at the Refugio since 2015. The family has overcome several challenges but continues to persevere. Unable to work in agriculture due to her health, Juana sustains her family’s livelihoods through the Fair Trade program. The sheep wool handicrafts crocheted by Juana support her 4 children.
Lucy and Maribel help their mother with the handicrafts. Maribel is also attending university. Elia completed her 5th year of secondary school. In 2024, she will be in her last year of secondary school. The youngest, Josue, will be in 3rd grade in 2024.
This year, the family received funding to build their own home, establishing a permanent presence in the surrounding community.
Juana’s family is just one of the many families and children impacted by Refugio Rafael. The 2023 Impact Report shares Refugio Rafael’s accomplishments and challenges this year. Thank you to our supporters, volunteers, partners, board, and teams that have made this year possible. We appreciate your work to make 2023 possible.
