Boosting Education to build Resilience in Chiapas

Last April, as part of the #LittlebyLittle campaign launched by GlobalGiving, we had invited generous and caring people like you to participate.

We set a goal of USD 1,500 to complement the efforts of the Tzeltal Community of Agua Verde, in Chiapas, in the organized self-production of 15 rainwater harvesting systems.

Thanks to your donation and GlobalGiving contribution: WE RAISED 3,000 USD!

The success of the campaign has allowed us to extend the work to more communities.

RESULT

Today, in the Community of Agua Verde, 15 Tzeltal families learned to self-produce rainwater harvesting systems, gaining access to clean water.

The Community calls them “Oshom”, which means pot. This sustainable technology has been co-designed with them and seeks to increase access to water and reduce the time it takes to haul wells and springs, increasing their self-management.

NEXT CHALLENGES

Now we are working in the Jomulcul'ha community, where a group of 15 families wants to self-produce 13 water catchment systems, 15 biofilters and 3 dry toilets to reduce the impact of human activities on the environment and improve water quality for human consumption.

El pasado abril, en el marco de la campaña #LittlebyLittle lanzada por GlobalGiving, habíamos invitado a las personas generosas y solidarias como tú, a participar. 

Nuestra meta era poder alcanzar 1,500 USD para complementar el esfuerzo de la Comunidad tseltal de Agua Verde, en Chiapas, en la autoproducción organizada de 15 sistemas de captación de agua de lluvia.

El éxito de la campaña nos ha permitido extender el trabajo a más comunidades. 

RESULTADO

Hoy, en la Comunidad de Agua Verde 15 familias tseltales aprendieron a autoproducir sistemas de captación de agua de lluvia, y ya cuentan con acceso al agua limpia. 

La Comunidad los llama “Oshom”, que se traduce como olla. Esta tecnología sustentable ha sido co-diseñada con ellos y busca aumentar el acceso al agua y disminuir el tiempo dedicado al acarreo de pozos y manantiales, aumentando su autogestión. 

SIGUIENTES RETOS

Ahora estamos trabajando en Jomulcul'ha, donde un grupo de 15 familias quiere autoproducir 13 sistemas de captación de agua, 15 biofiltros y 3 baños secos para disminuir el impacto de las actividades humanas en el medioambiente, y mejorar la calidad del agua para consumo humano.
