Success Story of Abdul

By Debadutta Dash | Secretary, Sukarya USA

Abdul’s Transformative Journey with Sukarya’s Education on Wheels

At just 14, Abdul’s life changed dramatically thanks to Sukarya’s Education on Wheels (EOW) project. His educational journey began aboard the EOW bus, a mobile classroom that opened the doors to learning.

“I used to study on the bus,” Abdul recalls. Despite numerous challenges, he persevered with the unwavering support of dedicated teachers who nurtured his academic growth and confidence. Under their mentorship, Abdul prepared for the Open Basic Exams (OBE) organized by the National Institute of Open Schooling, India.

“After appearing for the OBE exams, a teacher from EOW helped me get admission to a government school,” Abdul recounts. This pivotal moment marked a new chapter in his life. With Sukarya’s support, he seamlessly transitioned into mainstream education and is now excelling in the 10th grade.

Abdul’s experience with EOW extended beyond academics. “I also developed an interest in dancing when I used to come to the EOW bus,” he shares with pride. Today, Abdul not only excels academically but also works as a part-time dance teacher, showcasing how EOW nurtured his talents and interests.

Grateful for the opportunities provided by Sukarya and the EOW teachers, Abdul expresses, “I want to thank Sukarya because I got admission to school because of the bus teachers.” His story highlights the EOW project’s mission to break barriers to education, offering marginalized children like Abdul a brighter future.

Abdul’s journey from the EOW bus to a government school and beyond exemplifies how accessible and supported education can empower individuals to dream, achieve, and positively impact their communities. Through initiatives like EOW, Sukarya continues to inspire hope and transform lives, one student at a time.

Education on Wheels (EOW) brings schooling directly to underprivileged children through a mobile, well-equipped bus equipped with computers and educational materials. The program aims to provide functional literacy to children living in vulnerable conditions, empowering them to improve their lives and contribute positively to society. EOW identifies children from slum areas who are not attending school and offers remedial or non-formal education based on their needs. After preparing students for the Open Basic Examination, they can transition into formal education. The
courses are tailored to fit the students' schedules and lifestyles, with the curriculum and teaching
methods addressing their emotional and social needs.
