He is Mauricio, he has 7 years old and has a diagnosis of Ataxic Cerebral Palsy, which is characterized by involuntary movements, which previously limited him greatly. But luckily, the family has taken Mauricio from a very young age to physical and occupational therapies and he is getting better every time.
Mauricio is included in a regular kindergarden and is in his senior year of preschool, which means that next year he will be able to attend elementary school. But his educational inclusion has not been easy, his involuntary movements prevented him from being able to sit properly at the tables and chairs in the classroom, his scant language wasn’t a positive factor either, but the stimulation carried out from a very young age gave him opportunities to learn and interact with the other children and the acquisition of special chairs and tables that he uses in the classroom have been a fundamental part for him to attend classes.
In his first years with face-to-face classes after the pandemic, Mauricio was accompanied by his mother, but this last year, with the help of an inclusive teacher, he has finally been able to stay alone, which has greatly improved his language, socialization, and learning. Mauricio receives a lot of support in his learning, he constantly has homework on the topics covered in the classroom, which he does with his mother at home.
Mauricio currently has constant reinforcement in fine motor skills and activities to improve his attention and concentration, he also uses a language notebook and through songs, games and movements he is improving and I can now understand him better, which will also help in the classroom and in his classes.
