Rhino Scholarships: A Path to Success

By Leah Crabtree | Project Leader

We’re delighted to bring you the latest update on our rhino scholarship students.

We’ve recently completed the selection process for the 2024 cohort, bringing the total number of scholarship recipients to 311. This is a significant milestone made possible by your generous support.

To help our students explore their future options, we’re hosting a career day in August. We’ll also be checking in on their progress with some assessments during the upcoming school holidays.

We know how important it is to see the impact of your sponsorship, so we’ll share updates on how our students are doing as soon as we get their exam results.

One inspiring example of the impact of our Rhino Scholarships is Mercy, from Rumuruti. As the eldest child in a family of four, Mercy faced immense pressure to conform to traditional gender roles, including early marriage. Despite these challenges, she excelled academically, scoring above 250 marks in the KCPE exam.

Through our scholarship programme, Mercy gained access to Shamata Girls High School. She has embraced the opportunity, balancing her studies with her passion for netball. Her dream is to become a doctor and advocate for the end of forced early marriages and female genital mutilation (FGM) in her community. Mercy’s determination and resilience are a testament to the power of education and the transformative impact of your support.

Mercy’s story is just one example of the many lives being changed through your generosity. Your contributions are not only providing financial assistance but also empowering these young individuals to overcome adversityachieve their full potential, and become leaders in their communities.
