Give the gift of education to transform lives

“I chose to study at Yarani to have a good education for life coupled with a good training that gives me skills.” 

Esperance is a 19 year-old patisserie student at Yarani Professional Training School in Côte d’Ivoire who has benefitted from the business skills modulestaught there.

 She chose to study at Yarani because, in Esperance’s words, “Yarani is a benchmark school” that gives women in Abidjan truly valuable skills and experiences:  

“The management and accounting courses taught me how to make invoices and balance sheets. It's very important and opens my mind. My knowledge helps me in everyday life. My dreams have become clearer since I was trained. I now dream of putting my knowledge into practice by setting up a business.” 

Esperance has also been benefitting from specialised mentoring provided at Yarani and supported by WONDER, which is aimed at supporting girls to improve their executive function and confidence as they undergo their studies.

Esperance tells us not only the benefits that she’s receiving from this mentoring, but how it has increased her confidence to purpose her business, and to pass on this benefit to others:

“My mentor has helped me to grow and orient my social and professional life, to open myself to others. Most of my friends at home are now interested in my training and want to also do it. With my confidence, I now run cooking classes for ladies in my local area.”  

“My mentor is an English teacher who encourages determination and perseverance in learning...The determination that I am now showing. Now, after my study, I will set up my own business.”

“The training is excellent and the mentoring is also excellent. Thank you for your support.” 

Thanks to everyone who supports WONDER, schools like Yarani are able to provide practical, applicable training for young women like Esperance, which is directly enabling them to secure brighter livelihoods for themselves and the community around them.

Llenes is a student of the Healthcare Services course at the Banilad Center for Professional Development (BCPD) in Philippines.

Growing up in poverty, she witnessed how her family struggled financially, facing difficulties in affording even the most basic necessities, which is why, from a young age, she thought:

 “I see education as my beacon of hope to uplift my family from poverty.”

After she graduated from senior high school, she started to doubt herself and worry about her future. While her friends were excited to attend their first day of class in college, she was at home feeling hopeless, wondering if she still had a chance to go to college and pursue nursing, which had always been her passion since she was a child, or if she should  just let that dream be a "dream" and just find a job in order to help her family financially.

While she was searching for a scholarship related to the Health Care Services NC II course, she saw the post on BCPD school page offering a scholarship for the course.

“Without any hesitation, I took the risk and applied for the scholarship. Fortunately, my prayers were answered.

This school has empowered me to pursue my life goals despite financial constraints by offering quality education. I believe that BCPD serves as a guiding light, not just for me but for other students as well, providing the means to turn their dreams into reality. 

I am beyond grateful that I've got the opportunity and the chance to pursue my passion in healthcare that I thought I wouldn't.
