The study pod was developed to encourage basic education for all underprivileged children in rural areas. Due to extreme poverty in rural areas, most children do not attend school. Parents cannot afford school uniforms, stationery, and fees. The project will provide solar-powered study pods, allowing children as young as six years old to learn at the centre using the resources provided.
The vast majority of Zimbabweans are unemployed and families can't afford to send their children to schools. Additionally, rural kids can't access schools as they're too remote and can't afford transport. There's a lack of food, school fees, uniforms and school shoes. Poverty has forced young girls to marry at a young age resulting in unwanted adolescent pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases from a lack of knowledge.
The construction of solar-powered study pods will be rolled out in all provinces of Zimbabwe, in areas where people don't have access to schools. This community-driven intervention allows for rural children to get a basic education in a safe and well-equipped facility. Our target includes learners who have previously failed exams and wish to retake them. The facility is made available at night as well.
When youth are educated, the future of the country becomes brighter. Education develops a country as it equips individuals with the necessary skills to meet basic job requirements. By educating a child, we are reducing poverty and improving health in Zimbabwe.
