TawSaeng added 14 new students to our program in 2024! One of those new students is a high school girl named Nina*. When Nina was five years old her mother passed away and she has never known her father. She went to live with her mom’s cousin, but after nine years, Nina became more than her cousin could handle so, Nina's grandma took her in. Grandma runs a bar and they live in an apartment above it. One day a foreign man asked grandma, “How much for her?” (pointing to Nina). The next day, grandma signed Nina up for TawSaeng to get her away from influences at the bar with the hope she can do more with her life.
TawSaeng, gives students like Nina, not only a safe place to go everyday after school, but offers mentoring relationships with staff and volunteers, opportunities to learn English, life-skills, participate in community outreach (serving others) and building deep friendships with other Thai students and the hope of a bright future.
