We’ve received many questions about whether the recent freeze on U.S. foreign aid has impacted Springs of Hope Foundation’s programs. The good news? Thanks to your incredible generosity and steadfast support, Springs of Hope Foundation does not rely on U.S. or Kenyan government funding. You are the reason our programs thrive, and we’re deeply grateful for the independence and flexibility your contributions provide.
That said, the freeze is having a profound impact on the communities we serve. Even before these cuts, 80% of Kenya’s population was living in poverty. Now, with dozens of aid organizations forced to suspend operations, the situation has become even more critical. Requests for food assistance have doubled across many of the community groups we’ve partnered with for years, and we’re seeing an increased need for support among people living with disabilities, single mothers, the elderly, and those affected by floods and disasters.
Because of you, we’ve been able to step up and meet every single request so far. Your support allows us to provide vital assistance to marginalized women and children in Kenya—offering education, job training, and essential resources that bring hope and opportunity. Our vocational trainng school has graduated hundreds of young women over the years, with many great stories of success after graduation.
Here are just a few of the incredible things we’ve been able to accomplish together:
Running a free Saturday computer lab for high school girls
Making and distributing hundreds of free school uniforms each year
Sewing and donating reusable sanitary kits for teenage girls
Providing washable diapers for mothers of disabled children
Supporting pre-natal medical care and nutrition for expectant mothers in need
Sponsoring 15 girls with full school fees and expenses (and we’d love to expand this program!)
Amazingly, despite rising costs of food and fuel, we continue to accomplish all of this on an annual budget of just $30,000 USD. How? Because we have no administrative costs, rent, or salaries in Australia or the U.S.—every single person involved, including our Board of Directors, volunteers their time and even covers their own travel expenses.
If you’re interested in sponsoring a girl’s education or learning more about how you can help, I’d love to hear from you! You can reach me anytime at jenniferhughes@springsofhopefoundation.org.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Your kindness and commitment make all the difference!
With heartfelt gratitude,
