Latest news from our Childcare Centres!

By Chitra at Concerns Universe Foundation | Project Leader

Preschool Education

A developmental assessment of children carried out recently reveals much progress in the physical, social, motor, language and intellectual levels for 70% of the children in our four centres. Many have progressed from a score of 17 to 34, which is a good sign of development over their nine month stay with CUF.

Children are comfortable, habitually follow the routines and are cooperating with the teachers in doing activities planned for them. Their attention span and focus has increased to nearly 15 minutes for writing and for other creative work, such as collage or colouring, to far longer.

Similarly, their listening and language has improved and many children are able to narrate fluently the stories told to them and sing the action songs well.

Children in CUF centre are now able to follow simple commands in English and can answer some questions about their family. Mothers are very happy about this and this will help children to attend their interviews in private schools. Regular exercises and playing games have helped children to participate confidentently and win prizes on sports day, which was conducted on 9th February. As many as 90 children took part in sports day and everyone had lots of fun.

Health and nutrition:

Dr. Eileen did the second round of health checkups for 120 children and was satisfied with the improvements in the weight and height of children and also in other aspects of their health status. Records shows there is a minimum gain in weight of 1kg and in height of 3cm compared to the previous status. Through a government program, the children were all vaccinated against polio. They were also given treatment for worms in February.
On 23rd January and 20th February, meetings for mothers were conducted in all four centres and as many as 54 mothers attended. They felt the meetings were informative and beneficial, particularly the the session on first aid for bleeding with a demonstration on dressing wounds.
We are happy to see such progress with the children and such good work going on in the community and would like to thank all donors once more for their generosity and kindness in enabling this work to take place.
