SUPPORTING RURAL STUDENTS AMID THE PANDEMIC
Our Foundation is aware that the crisis due to the pandemic of Covid 19, is affecting our community in many different ways, and especially in the continuity of the Education of young people.
Our Mission is to foster the development of this community, to raise the community standard of living , and the continuity of education is key to this.
Since our Community Center has been closed for the contingency, we are implementing outdoor activities, with mobile technology and pedagogical advice to facilitate and motivate students to continue their formal education. With schools closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, these activities are making distance learning more achievable for those kids who are most in need. We are converting the outside area as “ Don Diego Internet hub”, equipped with fast, free internet service, with tables and chairs in an open space where small groups of students can also meet their teachers once per week trying to keep, as far as possible, the personal connection between teachers and students.
Furthermore, students who do not have access to Internet services in their homes or who do not have a computer to take their classes are now able to borrow a computer or tablet in this space prepared for them. This project helps more than 200 rural students.
We are about to launch an educational project with the prestigious Organization UNETE, with the purpose of further strengthening our project to continue supporting rural students.
SOLVING IMMEDIATE NEEDS
We would like to share with all of you other three of the good news happening in our Foundation:
263 families are now receiving support with access to free Internet Services, impressions and teamwork with teachers and students in this new distance education system.
During the most critical period of the pandemic, we were distributing emergency food rations once the pandemic began.
115 families were given food bags every 15 days during three months.
We are delighted to have achieved the certification as COVID-safe practices organization. This certification will help ensure all of us – Board, staff, volunteers, programs participants – remain safe as Fundación Don Diego reopens for limited educational activities. WE ARE TAKING CARE OF EACH OTHER!
