Due to the current pandemic, we have taken some actions to continue serving our community, adapting temporarily our activities, focusing to solve the community´s urgent needs due to unemployment caused by the lock down. These are : Food, economic reactivation and mental health care.
Food for the neediest population
The community, called Don Diego, that our Foundation serves, is very poor, and is hurting more now, during this crisis. In collaboration with the group Amigos al 100 a local Non for profit organization, Fundación Comunitaria Don Diego is providing every two weeks, packages of basic food, to 63 families in the rural village Don Diego. We expect to continue raising money to feed these families for at least the next two months, while they recover their jobs.
Micro-credits for our community
The current situation provides opportunities to engage with other civil society organizations Fundacion Comunitaria Don Diego established an emergency program to alleviate the community economy in Don Diego with Apoyo a Gente Emprendedora A.C (APOYO A.C.) , a non-for profit organization that support Mexicans bootstrap themselves out of poverty, and become financially independent for life either to start their own businesses, or strengthen existing ones by providing management support, mentoring and interest-free loans.
So far, 10 families in the rural village of Don Diego have been supported with free-interest loans to help them to overcome the following 2-3 months, many of the villagers have lost their jobs or have not sales in their family businesses.
Donation of books for children in Don Diego Community These rural children need also help to have their minds busy. We are delivering books to children in our community to continue to encourage reading even in times of pandemic. 300 book are being distributed in the community.
Mental health services
Operating remotely during this pandemic
During this period, a group of Psychologists, an expert in thanatology, and social workers are addressing the mental health issues created by this pandemic to provide psychological assistance needed now and throughout the recovery process.
PREPARING FOR THE RETURN TO THE NEW NORMALITY IN OUR EDUCATION CENTER.
We foresee that our Education programs will continue, once the emergency is over, in a different and safer physical environment. We are preparing open air teaching areas, to avoid crowded indoor classrooms. See photographs bellow. In addition to ask for your generous donations for the emergency support programs mentioned above, we ask for money to furnish with tables, benches and laptops , in order to continue our main goal of developing this community through EDUCATION and the use of technology to raise academic and social preparation of the students.
