A Thank You Letter From China

By Dan | CWEF High School Scholarship Recipient

Meet, Dan, a scholarship recipient from China
Meet, Dan, a scholarship recipient from China

Hello!  THANK YOU for your generous support of education for girls from rural China!  Please enjoy this letter to you from Dan, a recent CWEF high school scholarship recipient whom you supported:

Dan writes:

"My family is very supportive of my study. At home, grandma and mom and dad tell me to study hard, and then I can get into a good university. It is only after graduation that there will be more employment opportunities. I know this because my parents have many times not qualified to interview for various job because of their restricted diplomas. My parents have had difficulties making a living.

Since I went to school, I always remember my parents' expectation for me to enter the best school in our county, and I have been fighting for it. I seldom let my parents worry about my study, and my parents didn't put pressure on me in terms of my employment and college willingness. They have always believed that I would make the most sensible choice.

I'm more of a home body. During the summer vacation, my 14 days of vacation are spent busily doing homework and helping with farm work. I have less free time. In terms of hobbies, I like to sing, not only Chinese-style songs, but also some English songs. I like that, in the song, I can feel a different world, appreciate the emotion of the singer, but also practice recognizing the lyrics of the English songs, and accumulate more English vocabulary.  Because of my family's condition, I spend more time with my family. I also have little vacation, and I am busy with my studies; and I feel that during college, I will have even less time with my family.

For me, in this year, the most impressive thing is my parents reaction to my initial choice of studying science. I chose science, with a mood full of expectation. I listened carefully in class. After class, I actively completed the homework. I used diligence in all my efforts, and yet, in the final exam, my results were not ideal. Even though I mastered the knowledge presented in class, my results were not ideal.  My efficiency in mastering class material was not ideal, and I was under a lot of pressure to learn.

Once my results had a significant decline. Learning scared me a little. When I went home, my parents saw that I was tired of studying and asked me carefully if I had any problems. At that moment, I couldn't hold back all my stress, and I told them that I couldn't keep up with my studies and was now struggling to learn. I didn't know what to do.

My mom said to me, "It's okay, we're not in a hurry, take your time. It's just that we haven't found the knack yet." Dad was silent for a while, and then asked me if I was only struggling with physics, chemistry and biology; or if I felt that I couldn't keep up with the calculations. My father let me choose to switch to the liberal arts, because the liberal arts are biased towards accumulating knowledge, and learning will be easier for me. After this time, I switched subjects, and now my grades are keeping up. In school, I live a happy life every day.

The educational support that I received from CWEF is a kind of public welfare action for people to give love and help others. Included in this educational support, there are various kinds of materials, including living supplies, which make the life of the poor families less strenuous. School supplies are also included, which enable the children who don't have the funds to buy school supplies to study at their ease. There are also food items, which improve the quality of life in poor families. There are also charity grants to help students or people in major accidents to rebuild and develop.

Doing charity work is a very meaningful thing. I want to join in. And what I can do at the moment is to be a volunteer. I will participate when I have the chance.

---------------------------------

You have provided pivotal support in Dan's life.  Many children from rural areas of China are never able to graduate high school because they cannot afford it. But through Dan's determination and your generosity, Dan now has the opportunity to graduate high school and pursue college!

Because you believe in Chinese girls like Dan, they can stand even taller knowing someone else has confidence in their future success. Your generosity also gives them the resources to discover and develop their strengths, and your love and kindness inspire them to not only excel academically but also give back to their communities!  Thank you for your faithful generosity to support the education of girls from rural China through CWEF!  You are transforming lives.
