Educate Ethiopia Children One Pack for One Child

1. Background

Meseret Humanitarian Organization (MHO) is an award winner and vibrant women headed a non-governmental, organization established in 2011 with of the aim empowering and changing the personal-social, and economic status of women and children’s of Ethiopia who lives under abject poverty by giving them opportunities and supports which leads to development. MHO was founded by a role model woman, who had long been served in the Ethiopia Red Cross and experienced first-hand how lack of access to, use of, and control over a wide range of resources can lead to limited options for women and children. MHO’s focal areas of intervention are Women Empowerment, Child and girl education, Food security, capacity building,  sustainable development Environmental protection WAHS, sexual and reproductive health, social accountability, community economic empowerment through self-help groups, improvement of primary school, Prevention of Illegal Migration and Human Trafficking Rehabilitation, re-unification and re-integration. In this connection, one of its development interventions in the area of Child education support through its   “one pack for one child” project benefited thousands of children of poor families those who often missed out on school due to economic problem, conflict or natural disaster. This project enables many  needy children to properly attend their education as equal as their peers as well as achieve better academic results This project has received the  national CSO best-practice award presided by the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE)

 Further to this to address current unmated needs related to girl Education in Ethiopia  MHO has developed a proposal entitled  Improve Girls' Education In Ethiopia to mobilize resources and solicited funds through a GlobalGiving platform.

1. Goal /objectives of the project

The goal of the project is to empower girl children education by providing education support, female hygiene, non-meal & transportation subsidies to underprivileged girl

 Although the fundraising activates for this action at an early stage, the already raised money 10 US dollars from our generous supports covered a one year uniform and educational material for one girl from poor family previously who often missed out on school due to economic problems

1 Introduction

MHO is women headed a non-governmental, organization established in 2011 with mission  Empowering and changing the personal social and economic status of all women and children’s of Ethiopia who live in under poverty by giving the opportunities and supports which leads to development.  MHO founded by a role model women, who long been served in Ethiopia Red Cross.  She currently considered by many Ethiopian as 'mothers' to Ethiopia's most vulnerable and kid. . Since its establishment, the organization has implemented programs /projects mainly focusing on addressing the felt needs of targeted women and children. To address this unmated needs MHO has tried its best to mobilize resources and  solicited funds through GlobalGiving  platform .With this background MHO adopt developed   one pack for one child project with target goal of $30,000

2 Goal /objectives of the project

The goal of the project is to enable and create early childhood education opportunity   for highly vulnerable children in Ethiopia to properly attend their education as equal as their peers as well as achieve better academic results through educational materials and nutritional support This project aims to support at least 5000 highly vulnerable children in Ethiopia by the year 2022

1. Raise fund  through GlobalGiving   crowdfunding platform
2.  Purchase  of packs of educational materials
3. Distribution of collected packs of educational materials for needy children in the four regions and Addis Ababa

3.2.      Achievements

Some of the major activities performed during the last three  months  are mentioned bellow:

During the last three months MHO a total of $6,936 raised of $30,000 goal from generous supporters through global Giving. Accordingly GlobalGiving depositing financial contribution through our Bank account. We affirmed our generous supports MHO received money donation   $5,429.23 via FXecute and also received another money donation amount $357.77 via FXecute representing donations to MHO projects made through 5/31/2021:

3.3 2    Purchase of packs of educational materials

MHO has well established procurement and property final management system The organization has a qualified purchaser and logistic officer who reports to the executive Director and Finance and Administration head and regularly updates

The MHO Finance and Administration Team play a facilitative role to ensure the success of the procurement. The team facilitated timely procurement of the necessary services, equipment, materials and supplies for the programme with acceptable, transparent and accountable systems and procedures already anchored within MHO’s procedure. Accordingly procurement of   packs of educational materials with total amount of $5787 has been carried with competitive bidding process

3.3  3 Distribution of Educational Materials

TThe third activates of one pack for one child project was distribution of packs of educational materials in regions: Amhara, Oromia,Somali  and SNNP regions of Ethiopia and Addis Ababa The first round of educational materials distribution was conducted in Addis Ababa for needy children who are MHO targeted beneficiaries in Addis Ababa Kirkos sub city for 770 targeted children. During the pack distribution event children, parents/ guardians, teachers, school administrators, concerned government sector offices officials and representatives were present.(  attached  Partial view of Pack of educational materials distributionin  full reprot and photo  )

MHO has extensively explained about the objective of the one pack for one child project so that children should attend their education attentively and achieve their dream in life

The second round of pack distribution activity planned to Amhara Region: Third round of pack distribution  activity planned for Southern Peoples, Nations and Nationalities

5 .Children beneficiaries by own words

1 Biruktiyet  her  words

My name is Biruktiyet I am 10 years old and I am a 4 th grade student. I am Kirokos sub-city Kebele 05. I am from vary poor family. I have two brothers and 1 sister. My two brothers are the one who supported family by doing street vender (Geblo).  Last year I was not properly attended my education as equal as my peers. Because I don’t have needed educational material like exercise book, pen penile, text book and etc  . In Ethiopia if you don’t have needed education material, you are not attend properly class, and doing properly class work and homework .If your are not doing  properly class work and homework ,no one can understand your problem you will be physically punished in class . Last year when I want to school every morning, I am worried my I punished in front student since don’t have needed educational material. In Ethiopia if you don’t have needed educational material for that specific class corporal punishment   waiting for you. Last year I physically punished several time in front of student for I am not fulfilled of needed educational maternal. Despite physical punishment I was ashamed in the class for not fulfilled needed educational material. As result I my interest to go to school was completely decline and  not to freely go to school .For the next academic year hope I will properly attend my education as equal as my  peers as I have already  got all needed Educational material with kind support of MHO. I don’t worried anymore  about Educational material,
Finally I would like to thank my MHO , one pack for one child project kind supporters and GilobalGiving  , hadn’t been their support, I will  stopped my education   and will participate unwanted child labor .Really my hope is restored

2 Natnael

 Natneal is 14 years old and he is grade 8 student. He is the only child in their house. He ranked 1st in grade 7 last year. He received educational material support. He is studying hard to score good result this year too. He usually studies in public library. He also received supporting books from MHO. He attended the summer tutorial program arranged by MHO. He explained that the  summer tutorial program was very supportive and helped him a lot. He hopes to become an astronomer. 

He has some illness in his ear last year. But, currently. But now he  has recovered from his sickness. This time his health condition is very good. He supports the family such as washing his own clothes and cooking meals.

The economic basis of the family is the salary his guardian gets from her employers.  She is earning a small monthly salary from kebele working as janitor. She is also working in similar work in an organized cooperative which engaged in sanitation of the town. So, she is working day and night to survive the family. They are living in kebele house on which they expressed as a relief from house rent fee. The guardian expressed her best gratitude for MHO and one pack for one child project kind supporters and GlobaGiving

Kalkidan 

Kalkidan is 11 years old. She is grade 5 student. She is among a good performing student. She has received educational material support from MHO. She is studying in group study 1 to 5 grouping. The family is living in a kebele house. She is supporting the family through housework such as making beds and cleaning house. Her health condition is good. However, she sometimes has gastric problem. MHO has advised her to have a medical checkup and then after follow up her health condition as much as possible.  

The guardian of Kalkidan is house maid. The income of the family is from the husband of the guardian. Her guardian has some health problem and has been treated in a private higher clinic through referral linkages facilitation by MHO. She is also taking ART treatment properly. She usually attends counseling and guidance service in the health center. The guardian expressed her best gratitude for MHO The guardian expressed her best gratitude for MHO and one pack for one child project kind supporters and GlobaGiving.

3        Conclusion

From testimonial Children beneficiary’s aforementioned we can say that one pack for one child project already born fruit and attained the desired outcomes and impacts. Apart from educational material support and creating early childhood education opportunity for most vulnerable kid and children in Ethiopia , One pack for one child project has created an opportunity in supporting national effort in reducing Children vulnerability to trafficking, migration   sexual exploitation and other forms of venerability by fulfilling their basic needs.

Finally we affirm four Kind supports and GlobalGiving with pleasure that MHO adhere to and work within strict guidelines and procedures GlobalGiving in all project actives we do and we will deliver all the required report on time as scheduled/ In this regard MHO earned its reputation and established good rapport with government, development partners and project beneficiaries
