Please meet Winter who is an amazing young lady in her first year of college. She is studying Civil Engineering at Uganda Technical College. Winter is enjoying her classes and especially likes the practical site work she gets to participate in such as laying form work, beam filling, and erecting scaffolds to construct eave walls. Last semester she excelled in her courses and earned a grade point average of 3.89. She says, “I take this opportunity to thank my sponsors for this great pleasure and support to me. May God bless you. Oh, what a wonderful semester it was!” This semester should be even more exciting for Winter because she has begun training at JOAP Construction Limited in Mbarara Municipality for twelve weeks.
Between semester breaks, Winter and other students took part in the Girl Child Education Celebration Ceremonies where they encouraged parents, with girls, to take their children for engineering courses. Typically, parents have always discouraged girls to study engineering because it’s a male dominated field. They better watch out for Winter because she is paving the way for female civil engineers in Uganda!
Winter will be an amazing engineer when she graduates. Thanks to YOUR support, she was able get an education that made it possible for her to attend college. She has already stepped into the role of being an inspiration for other young girls who are also interested in careers that aren’t usually pursued by women. Thank you for supporting the children at Nyaka and giving girls like Winter a chance to be whatever they want to be when they grow up.
YOU make anything possible for these children!
