The 2017 school year is almost here!
Your children will be back in school on February 6th, and there are 60 very excited nursery students who can’t wait to begin their educational journey. The nursery rosters were finalized just two weeks ago by the Enrollment Committee which consists of local village council leaders, religious leaders, Nyaka and Kutamba Head Teachers, teacher representatives from each school, chairperson for school management committee from each of the two schools and the education coordinator. Guardians complete an application form for their child and the committee conducts home visits for verification and to complete interviews with the children and their guardians. The 2017 nursery classes will have 30 new students at Nyaka Primary School and 30 new students at Kutamba Primary School.
The nursery students aren’t the only one’s looking forward to the New Year. In 2016, the children’s eagerness and interest in learning increased due to the creation of classroom libraries and the introduction of new technology, especially to the lower Primary classes. An assortment of story books and games were provided for Nursery – Primary 4 classrooms in both Nyaka and Kutamba Primary Schools so that they could have their own small libraries. This has enabled the children to improve their comprehension of the English Language and general learning, while at the same time having fun! The story books, of both local and international authors, were selected based on the level of ease at which the children were able to read.
These small classroom libraries are also stocked with E-readers and Edutabs. A total of 100 E-readers with 5,000 E-books were purchased from Worldreader. Nyaka and Kutamba Primary Schools each received 50 of them in 2016 and these were placed in the Primary 1 – Primary 4 classes as part of their small classroom libraries. The nursery classrooms at each school also received 15 Edutabs. This brings the total number of E-readers to 150 (with 75 at each Primary School) and a total of 30 Edutabs (15 at each school).
Thank you for making 2016 an amazing year! We can’t wait to see what you make possible this year.
